In Memory of Poet
September 4, 2008 on 9:00 am | In Friends, Health, Relatives | No CommentsWith a sad and heavy heart, I am posting this to let everyone know that this morning, September 4, 2008, sometime just after midnight, Poet left this world to meet his Maker.
He died while dreaming of his precious and devoted wife, Lori, and his daughters, and his many rides down the road over these 53 years to so many adventures, with Lori on the back of his Harleys and by his side for over 30 of those years.
At the end of yesterday’s post he wrote that he had decided to stop typing and get some much needed sleep, and that is what he did.
Shiny up, Poet. We love you and miss you already.

Politics or media hyperbole?
September 3, 2008 on 10:22 am | In Business, Entertainment, Friends, Health, Internet, Life, Opinion, Politics, Technology, The Good Ol' Days, Uncategorized | No CommentsWith politics being what they are, McCain needs to let the public know that just because his beliefs on the subject of abortion are contrary to what most women truly hold to their hearts, the right to choose! He needs to make clear that although he, as well as his running mate, are most certainly of the “pro-life” crowd, they also believe that the basic right of all free people, is the right of choice! God has given man the right to choose for himself and that man may not ever take away that basic right of choice. I believe in McCain and in his ability to lead this nation in this most volatile of times. He has the experience to understand what it will take to win the war against those that wish to bring this nation to its knees. If he can convince the women of America that there truly is a separation of church and state when it comes to the freedoms hard won by her people, that basic God given right to choose, then he will most surely win this election hands down.
I too am pro-life as is my wife of over thirty years, but we also believe in a woman’s right to choose for herself. One can only hope that the people of this country weigh the facts and do not base their vote on a single difference of opinion or belief. Legal abortion is a necessity in today’s world and any return to the back alley butchers of yesteryear can only cause great harm to this country and become fuel for our enemies.
We are facing an uncertain future and McCain has the solution, a solution that should have already been in effect had it not been for the democratic party’s repeated blocking and voting down any attempt to build oil refineries and drill on our own land and offshore re as well. And another thing, while the democrats had themselves one blowout party of a convention with all the fancy trimmings and speeches that spoke of little else but “beating McCain”!, they had no answers to the problems facing America, they had a lot of promise as usual, but no agenda other then “winning back the White House”. And while the Democrats partied, the Republicans were concerning themselves with the fate of the nation and keeping watch on storms that might prove to be devastating to those unfortunate enough to be in natures path. Our Government,(at least the Republicans and Independents) ,wanted no repeats of the mistakes and missteps of the Katrina disaster.
Hopefully America will wake up to what kind of leadership we need in this most treacherous of times before they go to vote! But look around, The price of a barrel of oil has dropped to $110.00 barrel, probably less before I stop typing. Still things are still a bit high, but stabilizing. The dollar is regaining value around the globe and the job situation too is beginning to open back up. Well, I’m a bit tired and may soon begin to ramble or sound like an idiot or something worse, so I shall call it quits for typing anymore today and try to get some much needed sleep. Shiny up y’all!
Politics again?
August 30, 2008 on 1:41 am | In Business, Friends, Health, Life, Opinion, Poetry, Politics, Uncategorized | No CommentsI’m not sure I ever mentioned any of the reasoning behind my name, Poet. Well, some of it is due to past poetic ramblings about my lifestyle, a little with writings connected to some of the old underground papers and comics I was once associated with, but the name was given to me officially mainly due to my oratorical at wakes, funerals, and the occasional wedding of 1% ers and other close, yet sometimes a bit hardcore, friends. In over 40 years on the road riding motorcycles and living a lifestyle foreign to today’s society and those that “think” they actually have a handle on the real workings of true “biker”, Ive managed to obtain a bit of a reputation as a philosopher of sorts. I feel this too is mainly due to the lack of individualism in today’s water fat society. The longer I live amongst the common citizen the more apparent it becomes of the rampant ignorance of reality that faces the common man. Rednecks actually have a more logical and sustainable outlook on life in general and truly understand the needs and necessities of what it is going to take for them to maintain a living for themselves and their families. And much akin to the hardcore biker family, they too, know the meaning of the word , “FAMILY”, and all that it entails, without having the need to have it explained to them by some half baked politician that somehow believes he’s some sort of messiah for the masses. When in all reality, he is little more than a part of the privileged lower class politician. When Obama complains and points out that McCain has 7 or 8 houses, and that that is supposed to show that McCain isn’t in touch with what we as average Americans are going through, it only shows how far out of touch he himself is. after all, Obama too owns several properties, and vacations in places like Hawaii, the Mediteranean, trips to Europe where he gets treated like a rock star. Yes, sure sounds like Obama is just like you now doesn’t it? At least McCain really is the American story. And he’s for real, and he does tell the truth, whether or not its always what you want to hear, its still the truth. But politics at this time of year are full of pomp and circumstance, and it really is business as usual with the democrats, Their motto, as always, is “beat the Republicans”, Nothing about doing something about fixing whats wrong for the people, only about taking back the White house so they can once again, raise your taxes to pay for more unneeded underfunded programs that only work to widen the division of race and religion. And their biggest ploy is making the poor believe that the rich aren’t paying their share, or that they do little but take and take and drain the working man of whatever they can. Pay attention this time folk, stay the course of common sense and restore the power of the United States to where it belongs. We’re tired of the democrats taking away from our military, keeping us from drilling for oil on our own lands, and refusing to allow the building of much needed oil refineries! McCain is the only logical choice in these violent times, he’s proven his patriotism, lead men and served this nation without reservation and with only the good of this nation and it’s people his purpose. Obama is an unknown nobody with no experience in leading anything. A single term wonder boy the democrats are banking will charm the vote from you with his cute smile and empty promises and unrealistic view of the world around us and what America faces. Me?, I’ll vote for McCain, even with the women he chose to run as VP, shows the depth of his core belief in our country.
Silent no more…
August 4, 2008 on 2:03 pm | In Business, Friends, Health, Life, Opinion, Politics, Relatives, The Good Ol' Days, Uncategorized | No CommentsOsama Bin Laden…Saddam Hussein…Barack Hussein Obama…? Just what it it that ties these three men together in the anals of History? Is it simply that they all share names that are Islamic in nature? Is it mere coincidence that all three had, on more then one occasion, refused to wear an American Flag Lapel Pin? Is it mere speculation alone that alludes to the three having all turned their backs during the playing of the National Anthem?
Thruout History mankind has turned to the “Prophets” and the “Healers”, and “Shamans” and all other names given to those who’d claim to be able to forsee the future of man. In all nations, in all cultures some form of this practice exists. Even in today’s religions the foretelling of the return of christianity’s “Son of God”, Jesus Christ himself, is preceded by that of the “False Prophet” the very one they say will bring down the worlds civilizations and destroy mankind itself. And according to the myths and prophecies of nearly all known beliefs around the globe, our time is looking more and more like the time-line the doomsayers have been awaiting. They say that He who will bring these things to pass will be handsome and charismatic while playing to crowds of followers, promising change while never really explaining the reality of what awaits.
Sound familiar? Think about today’s reality before you cast a vote for change for change’s sake this coming election. That’s all I ask. You have to live with your decision…maybe!
Old Friends and Enemies Alike
July 12, 2008 on 6:41 am | In Friends, Harley-Davidson, Internet, Life, Opinion, The Good Ol' Days, Travel, Uncategorized | No CommentsI do believe I need to give a shout out to all those who’ve lived life on the road and have come to think those days are now behind them. We made it thru the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s thinking it would never end. Plowed right thru the 90’s, most of us, raising what was our last chance of a family. Well, now it’s the 21st century and so far life sucks and we’ve begun to stagnate. Let’s face it, we’re nomads! Wanderers, gypsies of a unrecognized social standing nearly forgotten. Why I bet most of ya’lls kids don’t know of your hell-raisin’ days or that their sweet soccer mom was once a titty dancer and a damned good one too!
The way I figure it, is that in a few more years our youngest will be in college and we can sell this house and land, what there is of it, and pick up where we left off some 20 years back or so. Now I’m sure a lot of you old scooter folk are no longer with that mate of yours from some 30 years back or so. Some of ya may have hung in there despite it all, like me and the ol’ lady have. I sure would like to know what your lives are like now and just what you intend to do with the rest of what ya got left. As for me and Lori, we plan on going out pretty much the same way we come in, kickin’ and screamin’!
If any old friends, acquaintences, dancers, daydreamers and old riding buddies or even those who’ve disliked my ass or even drooled over my ol’ lady would like to drop a line, why just start right here and leave me a comment. Maybe we can all hookup somewhere down the line and see for ourselves that the brotherhood of bikers, and the gals that loved us, still got it after all! Shiny up ya’ll.
Old friends
July 8, 2008 on 6:15 am | In Friends, Harley-Davidson, Health, Leather & Lace, Life, Opinion, Pretty Patches, The Good Ol' Days, Travel, Uncategorized | No CommentsWe got a surprise visit from an old friend today. This fella I used to call my “protege”, due to the fact he actually paid attention when he was growing up and I was around. Always wanted to see how things were done, willing to get right in there and learn about whatever was available. He wound up pretty much following in my footsteps so to speak. became a bike mechanic, built his own Harley and rode the old girl all over, wore her like a second skin, believes, to this very day, in our biker lifestyle. Old school scooter tramp lifestyle, not like the yuppie wannabes or the posers or the weekend warrior types. real people, and good for his word. Anyway, he even looks like me, down to the balding factor, although he is a bit younger than myself, he did go bald faster than I did anyway. Love the guy, he’s like an uncle to my girls and a brother to my ol’ lady. We sat and gabbed a bit and while he was there another blast from the past called on his cell phone and when he handed me the phone the ol’ gal recognized my voice immediately. I really have to get back to good health so I can get back on the road and in the game again. Not that I’m totally out of the loop or anything, but it’d be nice to get back to the level of fear and respect I once so thoroughly enjoyed. besides, I’ve not yet reached the point where I’d not be considered sexually attractive by some of these younger split-tails that seem to continue to be thrilled by bad-boy types on motorcycles. After all, I’m married, not dead! Come to think of it, I’d really like to hear from some of the folk me and the ol’ lady used to know back in the day when we traveled the country and worked the titty bars. If for no other reason then to know they’re still kickin’ and see where life has taken them to this point. Hell, I’m sure there are a few that think us from time to time and wonder the same thing.
Celebration
July 4, 2008 on 9:12 pm | In Friends, Life, The Good Ol' Days, Uncategorized | No CommentsWon’t be long now before they start shooting off the fireworks all over town. The ol’ Lady and I have decided to take the kids and one of the younger one’s friends out to the fairgrounds to watch the display tonight. We used to all get together with some friends every year and go out. But the one died and the other since has remarried and their kids are gone off to parts unknown. But we still carry Lisa with us every year anyway. I’ve often been so inclined as to wear her around my neck and take her for a ride on the sled from time to time. But tonight is the 4th of July and it was one of her joys to sit and watch the fireworks, as it is our own.
Just Ranting!
June 30, 2008 on 10:53 pm | In Friends, Health, Leather & Lace, Life, Opinion, Pretty Patches, The Good Ol' Days, Uncategorized | No CommentsFirst off, marriage is not something that can determine the sincerity of your relationship. It does in fact, change the entire outlook of life in general of the one you chose to propose to! If your lady ever tells you that she’ll not be changed by that little piece of paper…RUN! The bitch is lying through her teeth. She may not know it at the time, but trust me here my friends, they ALL change! Once you’ve committed yourself to a woman, they have you by the balls. Literally! Don’t get me wrong here, I truly do love my wife, hell, after over thirty years together It has to be love, either that or I’ve been emasculated in my sleep and hypnotized into citizenry beyond my control. My advice to any aspiring husbands to be…is run dude, run!
Flea market trends
June 21, 2008 on 7:33 pm | In Business, Flea Market, Friends, Life, Opinion, The Good Ol' Days, Uncategorized | No CommentsSpent the day at the local flea market trying to make a few bucks so I can pay some bills around here, again. Seems like the bills keep coming faster and the finances keep getting slimmer and coming slower. hard to sell quality merchandise at a fair price when half the market is filled with dollar store mentality shoppers who are more into strolling and critiquing the merchants then purchasing anything for their homes or themselves. Times are not as bad as everyone is trying to make them out to be. But if the sheep fear the wolf is going to foreclose on their little straw homes or take their job and give it to the burros, then what can you do but suck it up and laugh at the insecure citizens over their ignorance. Things really have to get better soon or I’m just going to have to pack it in for awhile and lay low till the dust settles and people are more willing to spend. Looks like anymore that the dealers are the only ones doing anything about it. Only problem there is that we just seem to be trading gear and passing around the same money from one pocket to the next just to keep appearances up. At least that way we can pretend we’re still making something.
Not Quite What Was Expected
June 17, 2008 on 8:56 am | In Friends, Harley-Davidson, Leather & Lace, Life, Opinion, Pretty Patches, Relatives, The Good Ol' Days, Travel, Uncategorized | No CommentsThe ol’ lady and I took our girls and two of our youngests friends out to the water on Father’s Day weekend so that we might enjoy a few days of relaxation. It didn’t quite turn out the way she had expected. What with all the stress she’s under handling just about anything and everything , she didn’t quite appreciate everybody telling her “not” to do so much. She felt like everyone was criticising her every move in voicing their opinions on whatever she said, or so it seemed to her. In all actuality they were just a bit overly concerned that she was ruining her health by doing so much. What they can’t seem to comprehend is that she likes doing things for people less fortunate then ourselves. We’ve both pretty much been that way from way before we even met, we’re scooter folk for crissakes. We know what it’s like to be down and nearly out. Our people have helped us in times of need and it’s only natural to reach out when you can and assist a fella or a dame in need. Especially if they have kids. Never suffer the innocent we believe.
